Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working.  –  Picasso

RG Pettit  |  Artist Statement

I show up. And paint. Every day. In hopes for big magic to visit me. Some days it’s just good practice, and I learn something valuable. But some days... some days it is inspirational bliss. I live to create, so I continue to show up and do what I love.

I seek inspiration from contemporary masters and creative trailblazers who came before us. I also seek deeply inside my heart and outside in nature for guidance. I fall in love with my subjects as I get to know them on canvas, and there are magical times when they take over and paint themselves. It might sound crazy that they speak to me, but I feel the connection and am told that compassion shows through in my portraits of people and other animals.

Three New Series
Heavenly Bodies: I think we humans are increasingly disconnected to the natural world. How else to explain the apathy to climate change? The more we connect to each other, to other species, and to the earth, the happier we are and the more likely we will be to save the earth and it's inhabitants.

Animals Photobombing Iconic Artworks: This combines 2 of my passions: art and animals! Also, what's cuter than a photobombing  animal?

Dual portraits using a "playing card" format: Jimi Hendrex/Stevie Ray Vaughn, Janis Joplin/Amy Winehouse, jokers Heath Ledger/Joaquin Phoenix. Next up will be 2 iconic artists.

I am passionate about wildlife conservation and animal rights. A portion of the sales of my wildlife and farm animal paintings go to deserving conservation groups and sanctuaries.
