Tigers are the largest of the big cats, and are endangered due to poaching and habitat loss due to human development. Two tiger species have gone extinct already; I fear we will lose others soon.

For the past year I've mostly painted small pieces. The daily painting style is to paint quickly and small, which makes the art affordable, and gives the artists more opportunity to perfect techniques and try new styles without investing too much time if it doesn't work out.
This is the first 16" x 20" I've painted in a year and a half. It took about a month, off and on. I also painted several small pieces in the same time frame. I really like the push/pull of loose and tight rendering, and feel this is my path artistically. (may be my Gemini personality!) I was gobsmacked by the new film The Jungle Book. It honored animals like very few films have, and I hope that it encourages the new generation to respect all creatures. A cautionary tale of the balance of nature and man's responsibility; the symbol of the "red flower" inspired this piece.
Here are several WIP pics (sketch on paper & blocking in on board) and the final piece. Oil, 11" x 14" on Ampersand board |
