Underwater Goddess

8/29/2015

In preparation for a new series called Underwater Goddesses, I painted a small piece (6" x 6") as a study of the figure under water. The skin has more blue and gray tones than it normally does. Interesting how little pink tones there were, so I added a few more just to warm her up.

Johnny and Jackie by RG Pettit

Tiny Jackie Sparrow is an orphaned baby bat rescued by Australian Bat Clinic. This amazing nonprofit works tirelessly to save bats and other Aussie wildlife, and are always in need of donations for medicine, fruit, and supplies.

Animal advocate Mr. Johnny Depp sponsored this sweetheart—what a generous kind-hearted soul he is! When I saw this photo knew I had to paint it; look at that connection! That's what makes the world go 'round!

This is fan art, so not for sale. If there is demand for fine art prints, I will donate the proceeds to the Australian Bat Clinic.

Rhinoceros: Pink is the New Black

Rhinoceros (and elephants) have a new defense against poaching: pink dye that makes humans very sick if ingested, yet doesn't harm the horned (or tusked) creatures. This gives me new hope for these magnificent, dinosaur-like animals.

Instead of focusing on details, I decided to paint this in bigger, bolder strokes. It seemed more appropriate for such a massive giant! This is the sixth painting in my series of endangered species.

In honor and memory of Cecil

Lured out of his national park, shot with a crossbow on July 1, he suffered for 2 days, then was killed with a bullet. Not only was this illegal, but I feel highly immoral. The rainbow bridge now has a magnificent protector.

In honor and memory of Cecil

I HAVE to paint him, and I hope I do him justice. This is the rough sketch I started on Friday.

Like so many others, I mourn the loss of Cecil. I am saddened every time I hear of an animal being killed, or when see a photo of a hunter and his victim. Deep in my heart, I feel that hunting is a nice word for murdering a non-human citizen of the earth.
